Zach Randolph is an All-Star NBA Power Forward. He currently plays for the Memphis Grizzlies, where he was named an All-Star in 2010 and 2013. Zach was originally drafted in the first round of the 2001 NBA draft by the Portland Trailblazers where he later earned NBA Most Improved Player honors in 2004. In 2011 Zach helped the Grizzlies to an eighth seed in the NBA Playoffs where they faced off with the first seed San Antonio Spurs. Zach led the Grizzlies to a historic upset, notching thirty-one points in the decisive sixth game of the series against the legendary Tim Duncan. It marked only the second time in NBA history that an eighth seed had upset the first seed.
Zach played one season collegiately at Michigan State University under the tutelage of the great Tom Izzo. Zach helped a loaded Spartans team, which also included future NBA first round pick Jason Richardson, to the 2001 NCAA Final Four. In high school Zach starred at Marion High School in Indiana, where he earned McDonald’s All-American honors. He was named MVP of the 2000 McDonald’s All-American game with twenty-three points and fifteen rebounds playing against future pros Gerald Wallace and Jared Jefferies among others. Zach finished second to Jefferies in the running for Indiana’s Mr. Basketball despite Zach’s Marion Team besting Jared’s Bloomington North team in the State Championship game that year.
Off the court Zach has dedicated himself to helping families in need. Growing up in a home run by a single mother, Zach knows how hard it can be for families to provide for their children. Zach has responded by donating $20,000 to the Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association in each of the past four years. The funds are then allocated to help Memphis area families in need of assistance with their utilities bills. Zach also donated holiday meals to the families of students at Carver High School and Booker T. Washington High School. He also donated over 100 coats to students at Cummings Elementary School and joined up with teammate Tony Allen to sponsor a holiday shopping spree for over 200 kids from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis. In honor of his philanthropic efforts Zach has received the Kia Community Assist Award for the second time in 2013, having previously received the award in 2010 as well.
