When Kenny Anderson was drafted with the second overall pick by the New Jersey Nets in the 1991 Draft, he was the youngest player in the NBA. Kenny played for the Nets from 1991 to 1996 as a consistent starter and solid contributor. In 1994 in his third season with the team, Kenny averaged 18.8 points and 9.6 assists per game and was an All-Star selection with then-teammate Derrick Coleman. Aside from Derrick, Kenny played in the Meadowlands arena with teammates Chris Morris and Armen Gilliam. After the 1996 season, Kenny was traded to the Charlotte Hornets where he played for one year. Between the years of 1996 and 2005, Kenny played for the Portland Trail Blazers, Boston Celtics, Seattle SuperSonics, New Orleans Hornets, Indiana Pacers, Atlanta Hawks and Los Angeles Clippers.
Before going pro, Kenny played collegiately at Georgia Tech from 1989 to 1991. As the team’s starting point guard, Kenny helped lead the Yellow Jackets to the Final Four in 1990 along with teammates Dennis Scott and Brian Oliver. Together, the three players were nicknamed “Lethal Weapon 3”. In his last season at Tech in 1991, Kenny was named to the consensus NCAA All-American First Team. During his time in college, Kenny competed on the international level as he played on the U.S. National Team in the 1990 FIBA World Championship and Goodwill Games. Kenny helped the U.S. secure a Bronze medal at the World Championship and Silver at the Goodwill Games in Seattle.
Since retiring from the sport in 2006, Kenny has gone back to school to complete his degree and has become a basketball coach. In 2007, Kenny began his coaching career as the coach of the Atlanta Krunk of the CBA and in 2011 he became the head coach at David Posnack Jewish Day School in Davie, Florida. Kenny graduated from St. Thomas University in Miami in 2010 with a degree in organizational leadership.
